{"id":52254,"date":"2013-12-02T15:13:47","date_gmt":"2013-12-02T05:13:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=52254"},"modified":"2013-12-02T20:17:27","modified_gmt":"2013-12-02T10:17:27","slug":"council-looks-at-levers-road-options","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2013\/12\/02\/council-looks-at-levers-road-options\/","title":{"rendered":"Council Looks At Levers Road Options"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>December 2, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Repairs to Levers Road at Tablelands could cost close to 10 per cent of the South Burnett Regional Council&#8217;s annual budget, a public meeting was told on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The community consultation meeting was called at Tablelands Hall by the South Burnett Regional Council to update local landholders about possible ways to restore the road, which suffered a catastrophic landslip in June this year.<\/p>\n<p>The landslip caused a 200mm drop at the edge of the road shoulder, and it was thought at the time the edge of the road was in imminent danger of collapse.<\/p>\n<p>This led to the road&#8217;s closure while council engineers examined the problem.<\/p>\n<p>At Friday&#8217;s meeting, a crowd of about 50 heard the council believed there were three possible solutions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A &#8220;like-for-like&#8221; replacement of the road, which would entail reinforcing sections of the road with concrete pylons; council officers estimated this could cost as much as $4.5 million, or close to 10 per cent of the South Burnett Regional Council&#8217;s annual budget.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A reworking of the road on a new alignment; this would involve some land resumptions, but was estimated to cost roughly one-third of the &#8220;like-for-like&#8221; option<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Leaving the road closed, and diverting traffic along Carters and Daniels roads; this would be a low-cost option for the Council but one that would require some affected landholders to travel as much as eight kilometres further.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The meeting was told the cost of a &#8220;like-for-like&#8221; replacement made it unlikely Council would be able to undertake the project at the present time.<\/p>\n<p>Voting for the other two options was split evenly amongst attendees.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Wayne Kratzmann told <strong>southburnett.com.au<\/strong> council officers would now assess the meeting&#8217;s two preferred options in detail.<\/p>\n<p>The matter is expected to be put before a full Council meeting for a final decision next year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related articles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2013\/06\/landslip-collpase-imminent\/\">Landslip Collapse &#8216;Imminent&#8217;<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2013\/06\/landslip-forces-repairs\/\">Landslip Forces Repairs<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com.au\/maps\/ms?msa=0&amp;msid=204931761143459536870.0004ec85103635647fe68&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;t=m&amp;ll=-26.199189,151.937485&amp;spn=0.215636,0.42572&amp;z=11&amp;output=embed\" frameborder=\"1\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"620\" height=\"350\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><center><em><strong>Map:<\/strong> Levers Road at Tablelands would cost $4.5 million to fully restore <\/em><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Repairs to Levers Road at Tablelands could cost close to 10 per cent of the South Burnett Regional Council&#8217;s annual budget, a public meeting at Tablelands Hall was told on Friday. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":67627,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3],"tags":[28],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
