Residents – and former residents – from both sides of the\u00a0\u00a0Bunya Mountains gathered at Dandabah last weekend at the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association’s annual picnic.<\/p>\n

The picnic is an opportunity for people with any sort of connection to the Bunyas to get together and swap memories.<\/p>\n

The picnic is held at “Cedarvale”, the association’s slab hut museum which is made from hand-sawn cypress pine logs, nestled adjacent to the National Park.<\/p>\n

This building, which is more than 100 years old, was formerly a cottage built for William Alexander McClelland at Bell.<\/p>\n

It was carefully disassembled by\u00a0Bunya Mountains Natural History Association members in 1980 and re-assembled at Dandabah.<\/p>\n

Each board was numbered so it could be reconstructed accurately.<\/p>\n

Inside is a collection of memorabilia from the settler history of the Bunya Mountains area which was formerly a major timbergetting area.<\/p>\n

“Cedarvale” is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm on most Saturdays.<\/p>\n
