There were no gunfights (fortunately) or bar-room brawls, but about 160 cattle rustlers, outlaws, Injuns and western gals had wagonloads of fun at the Wondai Kindergarten’s Wild West bush dance on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

This is the second time the kindy has hosted a dance at the Wondai Memorial Hall, and although numbers were down slightly on last year, organisers said the night was a great success.<\/p>\n

“When we held our first Bush Dance last year we had no experience of catering for a really large crowd and a few things fell through the cracks because of that,” kindy spokeswoman Jane Iszlaub<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n

“But we learned a lot from doing it. So this year we focussed on fine-tuning everything and I think most people were very happy with the result.”<\/p>\n

Patrons dressed up to match the Wild West theme and danced along to the Bushland Boogie Bush Band.<\/p>\n

The dance raised $4000 for the kindy and has inspired the group to hold a Spring Dance<\/strong> in October.<\/p>\n

“Our next dance will have a pirate theme,” Jane said, “and there’ll be more emphasis on mainstream music”.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately we’ll miss World Talk Like A Pirate Day<\/strong><\/a> – which is held on September 19 – but I don’t think that will be any problem for real buccaneers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
