Cherbourg continued their dominance in the South Burnett Premier League<\/strong> on Saturday, claiming their eighth straight victory by thumping Kingaroy 68-24 at Jack O’Chin Oval.<\/p>\n

After their first try attempt was disallowed, the Hornets opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the match with a dramatic length-of-the-field run by Fred Aubrey after a wayward Red Ants’ kick went straight into his hands.<\/p>\n

Aubrey converted his own try and then backed up minutes later with another try \/ conversion.<\/p>\n

When Carl Aubrey scored next, and Fred again converted, it looked like Cherbourg would have things all their own way … but Kingaroy fought back.<\/p>\n

After the Red Ants gained ground through a penalty, Mick Jarvis crossed the line. Matt Allen’s boot was as reliable as ever and the score was 18-6.<\/p>\n

Fred Aubrey’s third try (and conversion) was quickly followed by tries to Duane Fisher and Nigel Williams before Kingaroy’s Mitch Schilling found the line again. The Matt Allen conversion took the score at half-time to 36-12.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy drew first blood in the second half, with Matt Allen crossing for the first of his two tries.<\/p>\n

After being treated for a leg injury, Cherbourg’s try-scoring machine Fred Aubrey was off again seven minutes into the half, taking the score to 40-18.<\/p>\n

Nigel Williams then picked up two quick tries for the Hornets, followed by a try to fullback Duane Fisher. The score had now blown out to 56-18.<\/p>\n

But Kingaroy never stopped trying. With 15 minutes to go, Matthew Allen converted his own try, bringing the margin to 56-24.<\/p>\n

However Cherbourg’s relentless attack did not stop with Keith Gadd and Nigel Williams crossing the line before the full-time siren.<\/p>\n

The goal-kickers were the stars for both Cherbourg and Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Fred Aubrey picked up four tries for the Hornets and put on 18 points through conversions – making him easily the top scorer for the game – before he hobbled off the field with an apparent leg injury with eight minutes left on the clock.<\/p>\n

Nigel Williams claimed a hat-trick for Cherbourg and then converted his final try when Aubrey was off the ground.<\/p>\n

For Kingaroy, Matt Allen scored two tries and made three kicks.<\/p>\n

The tables were turned in the U16s<\/strong>, with the stylish young Red Ants team – unbeaten this season – proving too powerful for the Hornets, defeating them 56-4.<\/p>\n

Mason Francis scored four tries for Kingaroy, and Sam Johnston and Peter Hourn both picked up doubles.<\/p>\n

At Wondai<\/strong>, the Wolves defeated Murgon 46-42 in a close game in the A Grade.<\/p>\n

Tryscorers for Wondai were Matt Stumer, who picked up a treble, and Brad Perese, Luke Hedges and Shane Cliff who all scored twice. Danny Alberts kicked three goals and Luke Hedges, two.<\/p>\n

Tryscorers for Murgon were Charlie Paiwan who had a hat-trick, Justin Cobus 2, Craig Renouf 2, and Chris Bond. Goals were kicked by Chris Bond 3, and Eddie Aubrey 2.<\/p>\n

At Nanango<\/strong>, the Stags again again fought valiantly but were defeated by the Blackbutt Timbertowners by just eight points, 28-20.<\/p>\n
