Ten years of fundraising have culminated with the official opening of the new Kingaroy Kindergarten building on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

The building has been erected beside the old kindy premises, the former Greenview State School which was officially opened by Lady Flo Bjelke-Petersen almost exactly 35 years ago.<\/p>\n

That opening – held on October 28, 1978 – was accompanied by a fete, so current kindy president Scott Campbell said it seemed appropriate the opening of the new building should also include a similar celebration.<\/p>\n

Stalls and rides filled the open area across the road from the kindy, and there were displays of Tae Kwon Do and other activities.<\/p>\n

More than 1600 children have passed through the doors of the kindy during the past 35 years.<\/p>\n

Kindy committee vice-president Todd Fiedler said it had become obvious over the years that a bigger building would one day become necessary.<\/p>\n

“Over the last 10 years, from committee to committee, the question of what to do was constantly on the agenda,” he said.<\/p>\n

“But we always had the dream of building a new, state-of-the-art building.<\/p>\n

“In 2010 we realised we really could do it. That year we raised almost $45,500.”<\/p>\n

Mr Fiedler said the committee then located $50,000 in grant funding, but when a Federal grant application failed, Stanwell Corporation donated $35,000 to the cause which enabled construction to begin.<\/p>\n

He said a special thank you should also go to BJT Building, the South Burnett Regional Council and all the tradespeople who worked on the site.<\/p>\n

Mr Fiedler praised the generosity of the local community.<\/p>\n

“Just about every business house in town has contributed to our fundraising over the years,” he said.<\/p>\n
