The South Burnett Regional Council has laid a new pathway to improve access to the Wondai Heritage Museum<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Wondai Heritage Museum has recently carried out work in the courtyard display area to improve access for visitors.<\/p>\n

The museum, which is located behind the Wondai Library in Mackenzie Street, has seven distinctly themed areas with more than 20,000 exhibits.<\/p>\n

“The museum is one of the South Burnett\u2019s hidden treasures and worth a look when visiting Wondai,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

Highlights include the original operating theatre from the Wondai Hospital as well as the 1924 Dennis Fire Engine which was used to help fight the great fire at the Kingaroy peanut silos in 1951.<\/p>\n

History buffs will be interested in the bugle which was played as 40,000 Japanese soldiers officially surrendered to 35 Australian soldiers and airmen from the HMAS Rockhampton in October 1945 in the then-Dutch East Indies.<\/p>\n

The Wondai Heritage Museum is open Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 4:00pm and entry is free.<\/p>\n

It will also be opening on Sunday, July 1, for the Reserve Forces Parade being held in Wondai on that day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
