Roadwork underway to smooth out a corner on the Memerambi Barkers Creek Road<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

South Burnett Regional Council has scheduled extensive road works throughout the region for the months of October and November.<\/p>\n

Roads spokesman Cr Damien Tessmann said that thanks to the Road Levy, Council had been able to ramp up the amount of works being done throughout the region.<\/p>\n

SBRC Roads and Drainage Manager Jeff Stephan said Council was upgrading sharp corners on TH Burns Road and Memerambi Barkers Creek Road to improve road safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother is the corner of Scott and Hathaway streets in Benarkin,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This is a very poor intersection due to excessive cross-fall and is part of the main thoroughfare for the township of Benarkin. Construction on this corner is underway.<\/p>\n

\u201cSealing work on Crumpton Drive in Blackbutt was completed last week with a two-lane bitumen seal. The previous unsealed shoulders on this road were often worn and the wider sealed road is now safer for traffic.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil also has three upgrading projects on town streets in Nanango. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“Unsealed sections of Arthur, George and Gipps streets in Nanango will be bitumen sealed. This will cut down on the amount of dust for residents along these streets.<\/p>\n

“In Kingaroy, Council has engaged SRS Roads to undertake a significant bitumen resealing program over the next six weeks.<\/p>\n

“This preventative maintenance will stop water getting under the seal and saturating the underlying pavement. Without this preventative maintenance, the roads can deteriorate rapidly and cost Council substantially more to maintain and restore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cr Tessmann said Council had numerous projects underway and more scheduled for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

“One of the ongoing projects is the overtaking lane at Coolabunia. This has taken longer to complete due to the water continually seeping out the side of the hill, but this has now been resolved and work is progressing rapidly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
