The South Burnett played host this week to four visiting surgeons from Nagoya in Japan.<\/p>\n

The Japanese doctors were brought to Australia by Rotary International as part of its Vocational Training Team program and spent time in the region viewing our medical facilities.<\/p>\n

Gastroenterological surgeon Takuya Ando, from the Nagoya City Graduate School of Medical Sciences, said the team had visited Murgon, Cherbourg and Kingaroy hospitals as well as an aged care facility in Wondai. They also had visits planned to the South Burnett Private Hospital and to Dr Akshay Wadegaonkar’s office at the South Burnett Medical Centre.<\/p>\n

They were particularly interested in visited Dr Akshay because GPs are an unfamiliar concept in Japan.<\/p>\n

The four surgeons were “home hosted” and sponsored by the Kingaroy Rotary Club during their visit.<\/p>\n

During their stay they enjoyed a civic reception organised by the South Burnett Regional Council as well as being guests at a joint dinner meeting of the Taabinga, Kingaroy and Murgon Rotary clubs. They also took time off to enjoy a side trip to the Bunya Mountains.<\/p>\n

Prior to coming to the South Burnett, the four doctors spent some time in Brisbane visiting the Wesley, Mater, Princess Alexandra and Royal Brisbane hospitals. \u00a0After here, they’re off to the Solomon Islands before returning to spend some time at Caloundra.<\/p>\n
