The Judges’ Choice – and People’s Choice – “Water Life” by Colin Wregg and Frances Rowland Wregg, from Brisbane<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It was “brushes down” at midday on Saturday for the Heritage Nanango Art Fest mural competition being held in Pioneer Park in conjunction with the Mardi Gras.<\/p>\n

There was $5000 in prize money up for grabs, so the six artists competing were taking the event very seriously.<\/p>\n

They had been painting in the park all week, reproducing on a larger scale the works with a “water” theme that had led to them being chosen as finalists in the event.<\/p>\n

Votes from judges Brian Deagon and Jenny Cross, from Brisbane; Clark Smith, from Daylesford in Victoria; and South Burnett Regional Council Division 1 councillor Barry Green gave the top prize to “Water Life” by Brisbane artists Colin Wregg and Frances Rowland Wregg.<\/p>\n

The couple used a projection system to accurately reproduce their entry.<\/p>\n

It was a double success for the pair. Not only did they take out the judges’ votes, they also won the People’s Choice award (by just one vote).<\/p>\n

The artworks will now be on display in Pioneer Park for the next 12 months, mounted on their special stands.<\/p>\n

The winning entry has become the property of the Winds of Change Art Gallery. \u00a0The others are expected to be offered for sale by the artists after the 12 \u00a0months on show.<\/p>\n

Julia Shaw, from the Winds of Change Gallery, said the competition – believed to be the only one of its type in Queensland – would take place again next year.<\/p>\n
