Students from St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy have earned the right to compete in a regional chemistry competition after success in Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

Six St Mary’s students travelled to the University of Southern Queensland’s Toowoomba Campus recently to participate in the Royal Australian Chemical Institute\u2019s annual Titration Competition.<\/p>\n

Chemical titrations are an analytical technique that require both laboratory skills and conceptional understanding to determine concentrations of unknown solutions.<\/p>\n

The students were fortunate to have use of the new USQ laboratories.<\/p>\n

The students competed as two teams and did extremely well, taking out both 2nd and 3rd places in the competition. The 2nd-placed team is now eligible to compete in the regional competition.<\/p>\n

The Glennie School’s very experienced team, from Toowoomba, narrowly defeated the St Mary’s team to take 1st place.<\/p>\n

St Mary’s chemistry teacher Gary Curran said he was extremely proud of the students’ achievements. particularly as it was their first attempt at this competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
