The Queensland Dairy Industry Museum’s Open Day<\/strong><\/a> on Saturday was a great success, according to Dairy Industry Museum chairman Ritchie O’Neill.<\/p>\n

The Museum, in Sommerville Street, Murgon, decided to throw open its doors on Saturday morning to celebrate the South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show long weekend.<\/p>\n

Despite stiff competition from street markets in Murgon’s CBD, the attractions of the BP Dam Austackle Inland Family Fishing Classic at nearby Yallakool, and three other competing events at Moffatdale’s wineries, more than 150 visitors took the opportunity to visit the historic complex and sample its many delights.<\/p>\n

The Dairy Museum’s grounds had lots of entertainment for children, including miniature ponies, a jumping castle, and a petting zoo.<\/p>\n

There were also displays of woodchopping and shingle splitting; heavy horses operating a horse-driven grain grinder; butter-making and hand milking.<\/p>\n

And to add a truly novel twist to the day, members of the South Burnett\u2019s Society For Creative Anachronism were on the grounds in medieval costume demonstrating medieval crafts and weaponry.<\/p>\n

Museum committee members dressed in dairy maid costumes were kept busy all morning serving up billy tea and damper to hungry guests.<\/p>\n

An assortment of musicians kept the atmosphere light and breezy.<\/p>\n
