When Boonara Creek flooded in January, it entered the Tansey Bowls clubhouse for the first time since 1955-56.<\/p>\n

January\u2019s floods were the highest recorded in the area.<\/p>\n

Club members and local community members worked together to get the green “back on its feet” within a few weeks.<\/p>\n

But the clubhouse took longer to fix because the flooring, walls, cupboards and air conditioning either had to be repaired or replaced.<\/p>\n

The concept of a bowls club at Tansey was instigated 60 years ago by local farmers Les McKewen and Ron Stanton.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Both men were members of the Goomeri Bowls Club but found the bowling times didn’t suit their farming responsibilities.<\/p>\n

Other Tansey dairy farmers also found the playing times at Goomeri conflicted with their milking schedules.<\/p>\n

So both men visited the Binjour Bowls Club to gain support, advice and ideas.<\/p>\n

The new Tansey Bowling Club was formed in 1953 and the first executives were President Jack Rogash, Secretary Ian Stanton and Treasurer Arthur Owens.<\/p>\n

To raise funds, debentures were sold at \u00a310 each, with debenture holders to be repaid with interest at a later date.<\/p>\n

Thirty-nine people took up the offer and this raised a total of \u00a3480.<\/p>\n

Despite the 2013 floods, Tansey has survived and will celebrate its 60th anniversary on the weekend of October 19-20.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The anniversary celebrations will include a “Back to Tansey Day” on Saturday, October 19, with no organised bowls occurring.<\/p>\n

Instead, the day will be about current and former residents gathering to share experiences and memories.<\/p>\n

A basket lunch will the order of the day, with registrations taking place from 9:00am and a President’s welcome at 11:30am.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, October 20, an Open Mixed Fours Carnival will be held with three games over 15 ends.<\/p>\n
