{"id":46269,"date":"2013-10-02T15:46:25","date_gmt":"2013-10-02T05:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=46269"},"modified":"2020-09-10T17:07:16","modified_gmt":"2020-09-10T07:07:16","slug":"crackdown-targets-atsi-corporations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2013\/10\/02\/crackdown-targets-atsi-corporations\/","title":{"rendered":"Crackdown Targets ATSI Corporations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>October 2, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two charges alleging an Aboriginal corporation at Cherbourg failed to lodge its annual returns on time were adjourned in Murgon Magistrates Court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The charges allege the Wunjuada Aboriginal Corporation For Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Service failed to lodge a general report and a financial report.<\/p>\n<p>They have been adjourned to December 3.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum penalty for a corporation is a $21,250 fine.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutions, initiated by the federal Registrar of Indigenous Corporations Mr Anthony Beven, are part of an ongoing campaign aimed at maintaining high reporting levels among indigenous corporations.<\/p>\n<p>Since January 2013, 15 corporations across Australia have been convicted and fined for failing to lodge their annual returns for the 2010\u201311 financial year. <\/p>\n<p>Fines imposed ranged from $200 to $14,000. Corporations that received fines of more than $5000 had previously been convicted of the same offence.<\/p>\n<p>Since July 1, 2012, a total of 38 corporations Australia-wide have been convicted and fined more than $96,000 for the non-lodgment of financial reports following prosecutions brought by the Registrar.<\/p>\n<p>All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations are required to lodge reports each year, unless exempted by the Registrar. <\/p>\n<p>Annual returns for the 2012\u201313 financial year are due by December 31, 2013.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two charges alleging an Aboriginal corporation at Cherbourg failed to lodge its annual returns on time were adjourned in Murgon Magistrates Court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5,3,24],"tags":[1135,1132],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
