Everything is ready for the big “Back To Wengenville” Day which will be held this Saturday at the site of the former timber town in the foothills of the Bunya Mountains.<\/p>\n

John Learmont, from the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association, said today the South Burnett Regional Council has erected three signs which will be officially unveiled at 9:30am on Saturday.<\/p>\n

One sign marks the location of the town, one is located in front of the site of the former sawmill and one in front of the former school.<\/p>\n

Wengenville was located about 11km west of Maidenwell on the Maidenwell-Bunya Mountains Road.<\/p>\n

About 120 former residents have already indicated they will be coming back for the day.<\/p>\n

After the official unveiling, everyone will return to the Maidenwell Hall for morning tea.<\/p>\n

Display boards have been erected in the hall with photographs, many of which have only come to light since publicity about the Back To Wengenville Day began.<\/p>\n

Mr Learmont said former mill manager Ivan Frost also has built a scale model of the town, which will be on display.<\/p>\n

A “mud map” showing the location of all the houses – and the names of their occupants – has also been prepared.<\/p>\n

Mr Learmont said the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association was now hoping to get sponsorship so they could gather together all the information and publish a small booklet about Wengenville.<\/p>\n

Former Wengenville residents who are planning to attend on Saturday, but have not yet RSVP’d, are asked to contact John and Sandy Learmont on 0409-625-865 as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
