South Burnett police officers, emergency services personnel and community members gathered at Our Lady of Dolours Catholic Church in Yarraman on Friday afternoon to mark National Police Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n

The day commemorates the sacrifice of the 140 officers who have lost their lives in Queensland in the line of duty since 1861.<\/p>\n

Special mention was made of officers who have lost their lines helping others.<\/p>\n

Also highlighted was the service of former Yarraman officer Senior Sergeant Perry Irwin, shot dead 10 years ago at Caboolture.<\/p>\n

Prayers were also said for\u00a0Sergeant Gary Hamrey who is recovering in hospital after being shot in the face early on Friday morning on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

The service was led by Dalby Burnett Patrol chaplain\u00a0Rev John Selwood.<\/p>\n

Dalby Burnett Patrol Inspector Michael Bianchi read the Act of Remembrance and Roll of Honour.<\/p>\n

The service was organised by Senior Sergeant Lance Guteridge, officer-in-charge at Murgon Police Station.<\/p>\n

NB:<\/strong> Police Remembrance Day is observed on September 29, the Feast Day of the patron saint of police, Michael the Archangel, who is traditionally depicted as fighting evil<\/p>\n
