Two State Schools in Kingaroy will benefit from funding in the latest round of the State Government\u2019s Everyone\u2019s Environment grants program.<\/p>\n

The P&C Associations at Kingaroy State High School and Kingaroy State School have each been given $2000 to address environmental issues in their school grounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Kingaroy State High School P&C Association has been awarded the funding to stop soil erosion,\u201d Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be done by planting 200 native trees in areas off the school grounds which are most affected by erosion.<\/p>\n

\u201cKingaroy State School P&C will put its funding toward reducing the effects of expanding salinity on the school oval.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will help to lower the salt table and enable grasses to rejuvenate over the area while shrubs and trees will provide a wind break and habitat for local wildlife.\u201d<\/p>\n

Environment Minister Andrew Powell said Round 2 of the grants scheme would help practical environmental projects get off the ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese projects are among 83 successful applications across the State that will share in $3.4 million in funding under Round 2 of the ‘Everyone\u2019s Environment’ grants program,\u201d Mr Powell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are practical environmental projects that will deliver real community benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n

Applications for Round 3 of the grants will be called in 2014.<\/p>\n

The grants target established local community groups which support or protect the natural environment, including\u00a0P&Cs,\u00a0Landcare groups, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups,\u00a0Scouts and Girl Guides, Rotary and Lions,\u00a0catchment groups, and\u00a0environmental and conservation organisations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
