Kingaroy’s annual Bookarama is the favourite weekend of the year for local book-lovers and it’s easy to see why … with almost 20,000 books for sale with prices starting at just $1.<\/p>\n

The fifth annual charity fund raiser, which is organised by the Kingaroy-Taabinga Rotary club, featured everything from cook books and romance novels, to science fiction and chemistry textbooks.<\/p>\n

There was also a big range of children’s books.<\/p>\n

Rotary member Darryl Roberts said virtually all the books had been donated from the local area except for a load which had come from a Noosa Rotary club.<\/p>\n

All 526 boxes of books were carried into the Kingaroy Town Hall and carefully unpacked, sorted and placed out on display tables by Rotary members.<\/p>\n

Bookarama was held all day on Saturday and on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

As well as the feast of books, Rotary also put on a sausage sizzle and a cake stall to keep the browsers well-fed as well as well-read.<\/p>\n

The club is already planning next year’s event, and has opened a new appeal for donations of books.<\/p>\n

“We’d like to thank everyone who has donated books, but if you missed out you can still donate them tomorrow,” Rotary member Paul Laurentiussen said.<\/p>\n

Books can be left in Kingaroy at J.A. Carroll solicitors in King Street; Elders Insurance in Kingaroy Street or Ken Mills Toyota in Youngman Street.<\/p>\n

The majority of the fund raised from this year’s Bookarama will go to assist the Kingaroy Meals on Wheels.<\/p>\n
