The South Burnett’s “boxers of the future” were on display at the Kingaroy RSL Club on Sunday afternoon, and local trainer Len Hams was happy with what he saw.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Boxing Club put on 13 bouts between local boxers and fighters from as far away as Gladstone, Bundaberg, Goondiwindi and Brisbane.<\/p>\n

There were also several women’s exhibition bouts on the card, as well as junior fighters having their first experience in the ring.<\/p>\n

Len said the biggest fight of the night was the super heavyweight match-up between two local fighters, Jack Stead, from Kingaroy, and Steve Simpson, from Murgon.<\/p>\n

Stead, who is just 17, came out on top after the three 1.5 minute rounds.<\/p>\n

Len was also impressed with young Joe Smith (30kg) who fought an exhibition match against a 36kg fighter.<\/p>\n

“He went really well, he’s a star of the future,” Len said.<\/p>\n

He was also happy with the performance of young Joel Lacey, who was having his first fight, who fought well despite being sick all week.<\/p>\n

Len was also pleased to see the Woodall name back in the ring with young Jacob Woodall.<\/p>\n

“It brings back memories of the Woodall family; they produced a Queensland champion a few years ago,” Len said.<\/p>\n

The exhibition bout featuring Kingaroy women’s boxer Gemma Vogel was “one of the best fights of the night”, Len said, with Gemma unleashing a flurry against her opponent.<\/p>\n

Tammy Moss-Graham, from Kingaroy, was also having her first fight and “looked very impressive”.<\/p>\n
