The Wondai Regional Art Gallery is expecting a huge crowd on Friday, October 4, for the launch the South Burnett-Cherbourg On Show long weekend<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Wondai Regional Art Gallery is anticipating wall-to-wall crowds on Friday, October 4, when it kicks off the South Burnett-Cherbourg On Show<\/strong><\/a> long weekend.<\/p>\n

The Gallery expect a bumper roll-up for two reasons: the opening of the 19th annual South Burnett Art Competition, and a return performance by the region’s leading indigenous blues and soul band Muddy Flats.<\/p>\n

Muddy Flats appear at the Gallery two or three times a year, and every time they do guests come from far and wide to see them perform.<\/p>\n

The last time they played the Gallery was in July this year, when more than 120 guests poured through the doors to enjoy the art, wine and conversation, then spent the rest of the evening dancing.<\/p>\n

This time around the Gallery expect even more because October will also see the unveiling of the region’s premier annual competition for South Burnett artists.<\/p>\n

This year the South Burnett Art Competition will have individual sections for art, photography, sculpture and ceramics, and also a category for children’s art.<\/p>\n

The competition is sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council, and the exhibition will be officially opened by South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann at around 7:00pm, after which the winners will be announced.<\/p>\n

The night will also see the unveiling of the South Burnett’s new wine label “Yolo”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the last few months, the Gallery has been running a competition to design the label for the nearby Wondai Hotel and Cellars (which will be opening on Saturday, October 5) and the winning entry will receive a $500 cash prize.<\/p>\n

The winner of this competition will also be announced during the course of the evening.<\/p>\n

Doors will open at 6:00pm and after opening night, the exhibition will remain on show until the end of the month.<\/p>\n

Admission – which includes hot and cold finger foods – is $5, and wines from The Wondai Hotel and Cellars will be available on site by the glass or bottle.<\/p>\n

Admission to view the exhibition all the rest of the month is free.<\/p>\n

The Gallery is located on the Wondai roundabout and is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily.<\/p>\n

Most art on display is available for purchase and the Gallery also has a gift shop with an extensive range of unique jewellery, pottery, ceramics and silks.<\/p>\n
