Last week’s wet weather may have delayed it a bit, but the Reconciliation Week get-together between Moffatdale and Cherbourg State School tomorrow should still be heaps of fun.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg students plan to visit the Moffatdale school to enjoy traditional Aboriginal games and dances, face painting, drawing, and cooking. There will also be an official Welcome to Country ceremony and flag ceremony.<\/p>\n

The two groups of children are well-known to each other as Moffatdale sends 12 of its 70 students to Cherbourg State School’s Cultural Learning Centre each Wednesday to learn about the history of Australia’s first people and the township of Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg State School’s cultural teacher Frank Malone has invited Cherbourg parents to join their children in Friday’s fun.<\/p>\n

“Both schools’ students have been learning about Aboriginal culture and what went on during settlement and the development of Cherbourg,” Mr Malone said.<\/p>\n

“They enjoy it and it creates a greater understanding between the two cultures. That’s a big plus for building future happier relationships.<\/p>\n

“Through knowledge we generate a feeling of mutual respect, understanding and ultimately, friendships. That’s what we want our children to enjoy.”<\/p>\n
