A small but enthusiastic crowd attended the Wondai Regional Art Gallery last Friday night for the opening of its September exhibition.<\/p>\n

This month the Gallery is mounting three separate shows – portraits by Marjie Zimmermannn in the front gallery; mosaics and ceramic jewellery by Nanango artist Danielle Lawrence in the rear gallery; and works by members of the Nanango Art Society in the main gallery.<\/p>\n

The exhibition was officially opened by Gallery patron and former South Burnett Mayor David Carter.<\/p>\n

He praised the artworks on show, and commended the gallery’s volunteers for the effort they’d put into moulding such a diverse collection of work into a cohesive whole.<\/p>\n

Curator Elaine Madill said that the exhibition was “a tribute to the Nanango Art Society” whose members had provided a stimulating and wide-ranging collection of artworks covering everything from paintings to sculpture and furniture.<\/p>\n

She suggested that if visitors wanted to see more, they should make a point of visiting the Society’s “Winds Of Change” gallery in Nanango<\/p>\n

Mrs Madill went on to say that the September exhibition is also a warm-up for next month, when the Gallery will be hosting the 19th Annual South Burnett Regional Art Competition.<\/p>\n

This major art competition – only open to South Burnett artists – is sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council and will be staged as part of the South Burnett-Cherbourg On Show<\/strong><\/a> long weekend.<\/p>\n

Mrs Madill warned guests that the Gallery will be bringing popular Cherbourg band Muddy Flats back to perform on opening night, as well as launching the Wondai Hotel & Cellar’s new wine label “Yolo”.<\/p>\n

“The Gallery was absolutely packed the last time we had Muddy Flats here in July,” she said, “and we’re catering for bumper numbers.<\/p>\n

“So if you’re coming on October 4th, be prepared for a great night out.”<\/p>\n
