RU OK? This simple question was on everyone’s lips in the Town Hall Forecourt in Kingaroy this morning.<\/p>\n

The third annual RU OK? Day Breakfast was organised by the South Burnett Suicide Prevention Working Group and sponsored by Stanwell in conjunction with Centacare South Burnett, the South Burnett Regional Council, Queensland Rural Medical Education and CROW-FM.<\/p>\n

Yellow T-shirts and balloons abounded but amongst all the colour and hot food (cooked by Kingaroy Rotary) was a serious message.<\/p>\n

Suicide is a serious issue in the South Burnett with too many local residents feeling they have run out of options.<\/p>\n

Statistics suggest one suicide occurs in Kingaroy every four months. And that’s not counting deaths in other local towns …<\/p>\n

RU OK? Day is a reminder to everyone to reach out to their workmates, friends and loved ones all year round with the simple query, RU OK?<\/p>\n

The day is also an opportunity for health workers to raise awareness that there is help available in the region.<\/p>\n

RU Ok? was also marked all over the South Burnett with free cups of coffee – to encourage people to sit down and have a chat – in cafes in Blackbutt, Kingaroy, Murgon, Nanango, Wondai and Yarraman.<\/p>\n
