{"id":43892,"date":"2013-09-11T11:29:47","date_gmt":"2013-09-11T01:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=43892"},"modified":"2020-09-11T12:29:07","modified_gmt":"2020-09-11T02:29:07","slug":"input-sought-on-mine-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2013\/09\/11\/input-sought-on-mine-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"Input Sought On Mine Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_17540\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17540\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/cripps250.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17540\" title=\"Andrew Cripps\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/cripps250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/cripps250.jpg 250w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/cripps250-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17540\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Natural Resources Minister Andrew Cripps<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>September 11, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The State Government has released for industry consultation a package of proposed reforms to amend the State\u2019s mining safety and health laws.<\/p>\n<p>Natural Resources and Mines Minister Andrew Cripps today released the Queensland Mine Safety Framework Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe State Government, unions and resources companies have worked cooperatively for many years to improve mine safety and these reforms are another step in that ongoing process,&#8221; Mr Cripps said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The proposed reforms include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An increase in the number of coal industry safety and health representatives from three to four;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarification of the role of industry safety and health representatives;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The requirement for all mines to have a single safety and health management system that covers both company employees and contractors;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Key safety positions at mine sites to become statutory roles with a Board of Examiner&#8217;s competency certificate required;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Improved stone dusting and water barrier requirements for underground coal operations to further minimise the risk of fire or explosion, and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Standardising the management of fatigue, drugs, alcohol and fitness for work across both the quarry and coal sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mr Cripps said the proposals addressed the safety of increasing numbers of contract workers in Queensland mines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecent data suggests contractors are more likely to be injured on our mine sites, sometimes fatally, which is why these proposals will clarify that everyone, contractor or mine employee, is required to operate under a single safety and health management system on site,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also proposing to increase the number of coal industry safety and health representatives from three to four and clarify the important role that union safety and health representatives play in the mining industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Regulatory Impact Statement was developed following consideration of 28 submissions received in response to a 2012 consultation paper circulated to the mining industry about the review of Queensland\u2019s mine safety and health laws.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Natural Resources and Mines will host a series of forums in Queensland mining communities beginning on September 16 to discuss the proposed reforms with managers and employees of coal and metalliferous mining operations.<\/p>\n<p>Industry stakeholders have 60 days to lodge submissions about the issues outlined in the Queensland Mine Safety Framework Regulatory Impact Statement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Regulatory Impact Statement and information on how to make a submission are available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au\/gi\/consultation\/593\/view.html\" target=\"_blank\">online<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The State Government has released for industry consultation a package of proposed reforms to amend the State\u2019s mining safety and health laws.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":17542,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5,3],"tags":[106],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
