Former Tingoora peanut grower Cobby Nielsen is the latest recipient of the Kingaroy Rotary Club’s “Pride of Workmanship” award.<\/p>\n

The August category for the monthly awards was “Transport”.<\/p>\n

Cobby, 68, from Kingaroy, has been the volunteer driver of the Salvation Army’s distinctive furniture van for more than three years.<\/p>\n

He’s been the friendly man behind the wheel when the truck and volunteers turn up to collect donations for the Salvo’s Family Store in Pound Street.<\/p>\n

Cobby grew up on the family’s peanut farm at Tingoora and spent 50 years as a farmer ( he started working for his Dad at age 8 ) before retiring to town and taking up his volunteer work.<\/p>\n

Along the way, he also worked on the peanut roaster at Crumptons at Crawford on the night shift for about 11 years.<\/p>\n

He’s “having a little break” at the moment but expects to be back helping out with the Salvos soon.<\/p>\n

Family Store manager Lenore Dean said Cobby was always a great help at the store.<\/p>\n

The volunteers held a morning tea for him on Wednesday morning to congratulate him on his award.<\/p>\n

PS. The Salvation Army’s Family Store is keen to emphasise they are now open on Saturday mornings from 9:00am-noon; on week days it is open from 8:30am-3:00pm.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Rotary Club’s “Pride of Workmanship” awards are nominated by the general public.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The September category is “Health Care”.<\/p>\n
