Our last general meeting was held on Monday, September 2.<\/p>\n

The following is a report submitted to that meeting by Craft Co-ordinator Judith:<\/em><\/p>\n

The month of August had a very Turkish flavour. We had our International Day, \u201cA Taste of Turkey\u201d, on August 7 where we showcased our cooking talents. Morning tea was truly scrumptious and lunch was delectable.<\/p>\n

Of course, we featured that well-known sweet, Turkish Delight. My daughter Martina did a fantastic job on the posters which informed us of the Turkish lifestyle, traditions and landmarks.<\/p>\n

We attempted paper marbling several weeks earlier but it was not in the class needed to make it into boxes or cover books.<\/p>\n

However, we did a great job with our Turkey Stitch embroidery. Although this stitch frustrated a few of us, we did manage to produce some greeting cards featuring a front panel of Aida cloth embroidered with squirrels and cats displaying their very bushy tails of Turkey Stitch. Karen worked a piece of embroidery highlighting traditional Turkish motifs.<\/p>\n

Then, of course, Turkey again came to the fore on August 29 at the Gympie South Burnett Division Annual Meeting and International Day in Proston at the Community Hall.<\/p>\n

Again our cooking talents were used to cater for lunch, Vietnamese style. Vietnam is the country of study for us next year. The ladies from CWA Imbil provided morning tea featuring baklava and other yummy treats of Turkish taste.<\/p>\n

Member Karen\u2019s floral art qualifications came in very handy that day, judging the floral art competition entries.<\/p>\n

Other competitions judged that day included knitting and crochet, cooking and international craft.<\/p>\n

We decorated the hall foyer and main room with red and white streamers and balloons, together with our Turkish posters.<\/p>\n

A \u201cdisplay only\u201d stand was also set up in the foyer exhibiting a variety of craft worked by our members.<\/p>\n

Our International Officer, Jackie, got into the swing of next year\u2019s country of study by displaying two very colourful shirts of Vietnamese style.<\/p>\n

As a memento of the day we handed out some bookmarks we had made, featuring \u201cTulips of Turkey\u201d; the flower we were surprised to learn is the national flower of Turkey.<\/p>\n

Our next major craft project is to cover shoe boxes with fabric which we will then fill with items suitable to make them into comfort\/memory boxes for those whose babies become \u201cangels\u201d before they have had a chance of life. These boxes we plan to present to the Kingaroy Community Hospital.<\/p>\n
