Miss Showgirl competitions are a great way for young rural women to gain poise and confidence and can be a stepping stone to much bigger things.<\/p>\n

That’s the view of Wondai Show Society Secretary-Treasurer Liz Stewart who said she was “delighted” with the three winners of the Society’s 2013 Miss Showgirl and Junior Rural Ambassador competitions.<\/p>\n

The judging and awards ceremony was held at the Hotel Cecil in Wondai on Wednesday night as the traditional curtain-raiser for the annual Wondai Show, which begins this Friday and concludes late on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

“Some people think that Miss Showgirl competitions are a bit old hat but I don’t agree,” Mrs Stewart said.<\/p>\n

“Entrants are judged on a wide range of personal qualities, and from here they can go on to regional, State and national events, have amazing experiences and achieve great things.<\/p>\n

“Over the last 12 months I’ve seen last year’s competition winners grow visibly in poise and confidence, and that’s a really wonderful thing.<\/p>\n

“I hope more girls consider entering in the future.”<\/p>\n

Mrs Stewart also praised the hard work of Show Society committee member Joanne Evans for organising this year’s competition, and thanked judges Tracy Robinson, Gaye Hobbs and Gary Sewell for assessing this year’s contestants.<\/p>\n
