Tiffany Hunt from Kingaroy came for “a quick look” and wound up bidding on some Matchbox car collectibles much to her own surprise<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

August 26, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

The auction of collectibles from the House of Rocks in Kingaroy on Sunday drew bidders from across Australia, including representatives from the National Museum in Canberra.<\/p>\n

Spokesman for the auctioneers, Chris Norris, told southburnett.com.au<\/strong>\u00a0he had never seen so many people in one small spot and was “ecstatic” with the results.<\/p>\n

All the bidders on Sunday had the opportunity to inspect the lots on Saturday.<\/p>\n

“Across the two days, we must have had more than a thousand people through,” he said.<\/p>\n

The auction featured everything from dolls to antique farm equipment and was a sell-out as there was no reserve on any items.<\/p>\n

Chris said buyers came from Tasmania, Cairns, western Queensland and Byron Bay.<\/p>\n

“One of the main buyers was the National Museum in Canberra who bought the petrified forest,” he said.<\/p>\n

“They are going to put in on display in honour of (collector) Harry Labudda.”<\/p>\n

Chris said while the total figure raised was confidential, it had exceeded expectations.<\/p>\n

The highest bid on the day was $4800 for the petrified orange.<\/p>\n

A single ginger beer bottle was also sold for $4500.<\/p>\n

“It took six days to set it up,” Chris said. “And in less than four hours everything was gone.”<\/p>\n
