The Kingaroy Red Ants football club hosted a special carnival on Saturday for a group of players that are sometimes forgotten … girls too old to play in the local junior rugby league\u00a0competition.<\/p>\n

The U15s girls carnival attracted teams from Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Caboolture and the Sunshine Coast.<\/p>\n

And even though there is no local competition for them, there were enough South Burnett players to put together two Kingaroy teams.<\/p>\n

NRL Female Participation Co-Ordinator Jo Breakspear said there were U15s and U18s competitions for girls on the Sunshine Coast but so far there was nothing in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

“It was decided to put on this carnival as Kingaroy has a lot of girls interested in playing,” Jo said.<\/p>\n

“It was also an opportunity for the girls from Rockhampton who also don’t have a competition.”<\/p>\n

Jo said this was the first carnival of its kind to be held but the NRL was looking to run two next year.<\/p>\n

The first would be held in Bundaberg but the venue for the second had not yet been decided.<\/p>\n

The girls played 20-minute games in a round robin competition. One point was awarded for every try plus five points for a win.<\/p>\n

The Player of the Carnival was Jayden Stibbards, from Bundaberg.<\/p>\n
