What week it has been for bowls in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Yarraman celebrated their Golden Jubilee \u2013 50 years of bowls \u2013 and what a roll up they had for the weekend \u2013 some to play bowls,`and some to sit around and chat about the good old days, when they weren\u2019t good and they weren\u2019t old.<\/p>\n

Social barefoot bowls on Saturday kicked off the 50 year centenary celebrations:\u00a0Elaine Taylor, Kay Dugdell, Jan Lougheed defeated Neil Currell, Val Cochrane (Roma) and Peter Lougheed 18-7.<\/p>\n

Ralph Granville, Daphne Stewart, Margaret Willoughby drew with Col Melcer, Jenny Moore Alison Anderson 12-12.<\/p>\n

Andy (also from Roma) and Di Currell defeated Bill Taylor, Robyn Diercke 17-10,<\/p>\n

To add to the colour of the day’s play, six players elected to play with wide draw bowls: Brian Dugdell, John Moore, Neil Johnston defeated Merv Fitch, Kev Profke, Horst Myer 19-9.<\/p>\n

It was a big day on Sunday for the celebrations with a full green of 64 players from Caloundra, Urangan, Roma, North Dalby, Kilcoy, Toogoolawah – and of course Burnett district clubs including Goomeri, Tansey, Kingaroy, and Nanango.<\/p>\n

The Burnett District had a rep team as did the Queensland Bowls Association.<\/p>\n

The Queensland Bowls Association presented the Yarraman Club with a 50-year centenary plaque to go up on the wall beside the club\u2019s 40 year plaque. The weekend was full of nostalgia.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy won the weekend, with Roma runners-up.<\/p>\n

Ladies day at Yarraman on Wednesday was Social play \u2013 Triples:\u00a0Rita Young, Ron Lucas, Neil Currell 18 defeated \u00a0Margaret Willoughby, Ivy Wrembreck and Di Currell 13.\u00a0Eileen Elliott, Roy Wrembreck and Daphne Stewart 14 defeated Allison Anderson, Lola Harper and Helene Johnson 11.<\/p>\n

At Nanango<\/strong>, the monthly Triples match – 5 for a win – 2 for an end \u2013 Yarraman teams taking part but had trouble living up to their reputation. Winners were Lyn Halliday, Sue Tucker and Brian Havell 42. Next best – Ian Strack, Delvin Powysand & Warren Arthur 31 +26. Another close one – Bob Hammond, Mike Wyvill & Bob Hall 31 + 20<\/p>\n

And last Friday \u2013 Scroungers \u2013 at it again – Terry Howard 133 – Les Joyce 127 \u2013 and Ben Pratap in there with 113<\/p>\n

On Tuesday – Mens Social – 3 for an end and 2 for a win \u2013\u00a0Henry Bleisner & Ben Pratap 49 \u2013 next best.
\nJoe Aglizzo and Jim Fowler 41.<\/p>\n

Wednesday was Ladies Social bowls.\u00a0A game worth mentioning here is Di McNuloge, Silvia Fanning and Margaret Bradford 14 drew with Muriel Benford, June McKee & Evelyn Jensen 14.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy<\/strong> news: Always plenty happening there. A great game of triples on Sunday, six points for a win, one \u00a0point for each end won, the margin to decide a tiebreaker.<\/p>\n

The winners were\u00a0Peter Neilsen, Des Richards, Col Kratzmann,\u00a020 points plus margin of 18.<\/p>\n

Another popular event is \u00a0Cheap Tuesday Pairs. This weeks results: Barry O’Brien, Bruce Johnston 23 defeated Maree Millard, Bob Robinson 10<\/p>\n

Annette O’Brien, Danny Holligan 21 defeated Dave Barwick, Col Kratzmann 6<\/p>\n

Peter Neilsen, Kev Raffin, 23 defeated Geoff Clutterbuck, Steve Carland 9<\/p>\n

One of the popular tournaments at this time of the year is the Tansey Ladies Club\u2019s one day fours. <\/strong><\/p>\n

On Thursday, 14 teams competed over three rounds of 16 ends. Players came from all over \u2013 Kadanga, Gympie, Binjour and a number of South Burnett Clubs including Yarraman.<\/p>\n

The trophy was decided on wins plus margins.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy ran out trumps with three wins and 36 points.<\/p>\n

Their team comprised Maureen Kemp, Irene Smith, Irene Morosky and Glen Yeates.<\/p>\n

Runners-up were a composite team comprising Colleen Dobson, John Dobson, Sharon Yeates and Bev Heness with three wins and 34 points.<\/p>\n

Special trophy for the highest score on the last round went to Gympie \u2013 a team skipped by Maureen Dodt scoring 20.<\/p>\n

Tansey ladies looking forward to the Rose Bowl tournament at Nanango next week.<\/p>\n
