The South Burnett’s cattlemen and women have done the region proud with a strong showing at this year\u2019s Brisbane Exhibition.<\/p>\n

Midge Thompson, from Nanango – who brought home a purple ribbon for a Champion Carcase \u00a0in the Prime Beef section – said South Burnett representatives were well-placed in a lot of cattle competitions.<\/p>\n

“The South Burnett was very well-represented in the Prime Beef and Carcase,” he said.<\/p>\n

A couple of the proudest – and youngest – winners were Carmen and Lannah Sowden, from Kingaroy, whose Limousin Angus steer\u00a0“Billy The Kid” was named Grand Champion Led Steer.<\/p>\n

Proud mum Shannon said the steer was later sold at auction for $23\/kg.<\/p>\n

“This is a huge achievement for the girls. It could be described as a once-in-a-lifetime achievement and they won it with their very first led steer,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The Ekka is the largest hoof and hook competition in Australia.”<\/p>\n

“Billy The Kid” was bred by John and Leny Gaffney from Graneta Limousins, near Bell.<\/p>\n

Other notable wins went to the Evans family, from Jen-Daview Limousins at Kingaroy, who took out the\u00a0Champion Lightweight Led Steer and the Ken McDonald Memorial Shield.<\/p>\n

James McUtchen, from ‘Morning Hills’, at Windera, earned a Reserve Champion ribbon in the mediumweight section of the Woolworths competition for a Belgian Blue Brangus.<\/p>\n

In the Westpac Agribusiness Young Judges competition, South Burnett representative Sarah Peters came first in Junior Dairy Cattle.<\/p>\n
