A display of Vietnam War memorabilia has been placed on show at the Kingaroy Heritage Museum in Haly Street just it time for Vietnam Veterans Day on August 18.<\/p>\n

The display is the second in a series which has been planned by the the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL sub-branch.<\/p>\n

The first, held in April, had an Anzac Day theme; the next in the series will be designed to reflect Remembrance Day in November.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL sub-branch president Don Davey said the display included personal items carried by Australian troops in Vietnam including dixies, water bottles, a hexamine stove and an officer’s “aide memoire”.<\/p>\n

There are also operational maps of Vietnam donated to the sub-branch and a flag that was flown on HMAS Brisbane, the last Australian naval vessel to leave Vietnam waters.<\/p>\n

The items also bring back memories for Mr Davey who served in Vietnam for 14 months in 1970-71. The then-Corporal Don Davey (later Warrant Officer) was in the 2nd Battalion in Vung Tau and Long Binh.<\/p>\n

The display will run throughout August.<\/p>\n

Entry into the Kingaroy Heritage Museum is free, and it is open daily.<\/p>\n
