Kingaroy Town Hall was packed with 440 people and more than $35,000 was raised … so by any measure, Saturday night’s Relay For Life “Dinner With The Captains” was a really great success.<\/p>\n

Organising committee member Louise Rackemann said she was really happy with the night.<\/p>\n

“The food was magnificent and the guest speakers were really good,” she said.<\/p>\n

The guest speakers were the “three captains”:\u00a0Maroons coach (and former Australian rugby league captain) Mal Meninga, sports commentator (and former Australian cricket captain) Greg Chappell and Commonwealth Games gold medallist (and former Australian netball captain) Vicki Wilson.<\/p>\n

They were each interviewed on stage by South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann and then questions and answers were taken from the floor.<\/p>\n

Louise said she would like to pay tribute to Jimmy Stephen, from Accents Catering, who prepared the food with assistance from local chefs Jason Ford and\u00a0Michael Beohm and a team of workers.<\/p>\n

Karen Bradwell, from A Wedding Or Event, provided the hall decorations at no charge.<\/p>\n

And in a nod to the South Burnett wine region, only local wines were served on the night.<\/p>\n

Louise said the raffle went really well. Amongst the 15 prizes was an autographed Mal Meninga football and an accommodation package.<\/p>\n

And the auction was “brilliant”. \u00a0The 11 items that went under the hammer raised about $20,000.<\/p>\n

Louise said organisers were still working out the final figure but hoped to have a full tally by the end of the week.<\/p>\n

The night even included a tribute to the last State of Origin match when a “streaker” \u00a0– wearing a “fat suit”, of course – dashed through the tables.<\/p>\n

But the police were on the ball, and he was quickly “arrested” and led away.<\/p>\n
