A funeral service was held in Kingaroy on Friday for Tom Hauritz, a well-known South Burnett resident and the oldest member of the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch.<\/p>\n

Mr Hauritz joined the Citizen Military Forces in 1940 and fought in New Guinea (1943-44) and Bougainville (1944-45) during World War II, serving with the 47th Battalion (Wide Bay Regiment).<\/p>\n

He was born on August 5, 1917.<\/p>\n

Prior to the war he worked at the Kingaroy Butter Factory, following in the footsteps of his father who also worked there.<\/p>\n

For most of his life, Mr Hauritz lived in Haly Street, Kingaroy, but in recent years was a resident at Orana.<\/p>\n
