Senior high school students from across the South Burnett were invited to attend the annual South Burnett Careers Expo today, held in the Indoor Sports Centre at Kingaroy State High School.<\/p>\n

The day featured displays by local employers – including Swickers and PCA – career options (have you thought about joining the Police or Defence Force?), information on apprenticeships and traineeships and tertiary education choices.<\/p>\n

The Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE had several displays providing information on courses available locally.<\/p>\n

Stanwell also mounted a stand. Although there will be no intake of apprentices or trainees in 2014, this is expected to re-start in subsequent years.<\/p>\n

Swickers HR officer Rebecca Richmond said the Kingaroy-based company would be taking on one school-based trainee in engineering and one in electrical work in 2014. They would also be offering several traineeships in slaughtering and boning.<\/p>\n
