Cowboys and cowgirls will be moseying on down to the Wondai Memorial Hall on June 16 for the 2nd annual Wondai Community Bush Dance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following on from last year’s success, organisers promise another great night of boot-scooting and willow-stripping, this time with a “Wild West” theme.<\/p>\n

Music will be provided by the “Bushland Boogie” band. The band and its professional caller Maggie are experienced teachers of bushdances and will have even the most reluctant dancers up on the floor.<\/p>\n

Committee member Jane Iszlaub<\/strong> said the original Wondai Community Bushdance was organised to lift community spirits after the flooding at the start of 2011.<\/p>\n

“We couldn’t believe the crowd on the night, and in the following week, people in the street who didn’t attend were saying they were sad they missed out,” she said.<\/p>\n

“This year, we’ve put a lot of effort into the theme for the evening by creating the atmosphere of an old-time saloon.<\/p>\n

“To encourage the crowd to get into the spirit of the night, we have fantastic Best Dressed prizes for adults, kids and groups. We also have a huge multi-draw raffle including the main prize of two open-destination return plane tickets.”<\/p>\n

All proceeds from the night will support the development of \u00a0learning programs at the Wondai C&K Kindergarten.<\/p>\n

Jane said recent funding changes had made it a difficult time for rural community-operated kindergartens, however the Wondai Kindy would not be deterred from its goal to provide the best early-childhood education for local children which is why it it was holding this fund-raising event.<\/p>\n

Parents Amanda Magee<\/strong> and Kellie Sewell<\/strong> said their children were looking forward to the evening.<\/p>\n

“Riley is so funny in his cowboy outfit; he actually gets a swagger up when he wears it,” Kellie said.<\/p>\n

Amanda’s daughter Caitlyn is a veteran bushdancer, having attended the previous Bushdance: “She loves the music and the dancing, and already has a special dress picked out for the night.”<\/p>\n

Local businesses, including Wondai Hardware and Trade Centre and Wondai IGA, have supported the night with donations.<\/p>\n

Jane said several South Burnett businesses have already reserved their tables. Only 220 tickets will be sold to ensure the crowd has room to move on the dance floor.<\/p>\n

Saloon doors open at 5:30pm with live music from 6:00pm. Supper will be provided and the event is fully licensed.<\/p>\n

Ticket prices are the same as last year: $15 adults, $12 pensioners and high school students, $8 primary school students and families $40 (2+2). Children under 5 are free.<\/p>\n
