The South Burnett Thrashers thrilled their fans – and kept their finals hopes alive – by locking in a good win in a high-scoring game against USQ Saints in Kingaroy on Saturday.<\/p>\n

USQ were strong at the start but the Thrashers kept the scores close for most of the game.<\/p>\n

With 15 minutes to go, the South Burnett side led by just two points but then Kyle Doolin kicked a penalty shot to stretch the margin to five.<\/p>\n

The Thrashers then powered on in the last six minutes, putting on two unanswered tries.<\/p>\n

Club president Shane O\u2019Malley said it had been a great win in front of the home crowd.<\/p>\n

But he admitted it hadn’t been either sides’ best defensive effort with the match ending with high scores for both teams.<\/p>\n

Shane said the from a team perspective, the best thing that came from the game was that they “went on with it” for the full 80 minutes.<\/p>\n

Man of the match was five-eighth Brandon Walsh who scored \u00a0three tries.<\/p>\n

Shane said hooker Robert Turned also played very well, and Kyle Doolan kicked five conversions and one penalty goal.<\/p>\n

The final score was South Burnett 50, USQ 33.<\/p>\n

Next weekend the Thrashers hit the road for their last away game of the season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They will be taking on Roma at Gallas Fox Park in Roma on Saturday.<\/p>\n

This is a must-win game for the Thrashers if they’re going to keep their finals hopes alive.<\/p>\n

Roma suffered a big loss this weekend but that doesn’t mean they are going to be a walkover.<\/p>\n

“It’s going to be a big test for us if we have any chance of sneaking into the finals,” Shane said.<\/p>\n

“Roma will always be strong at home but we are a definitely a chance.<\/p>\n

“After Saturday’s win the boys are very upbeat, very keen.<\/p>\n

“We are very hopeful of travelling with a strong team.”<\/p>\n
