July 26, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s going to be a huge day at Blackbutt’s\u00a0Ian \u201cBunny\u201d Pearce Oval on Saturday (July 27) with the clash of the two “centenary” rugby league teams, the Blackbutt-Yarraman Timbertowners and the Nanango Stags in the main A Grade match.<\/p>\n

Blackbutt club president Barry Richardson said the day would get underway at 9:00am with the U6s taking on Wondai.<\/p>\n

This would be followed by the U8s at 10:00am and the U12s at 11:00am.<\/p>\n

At 12:15pm, the first A Grade match will be played … a clash between the top-of-the-table teams Cherbourg and Wondai who have been sparring all season.<\/p>\n

After this match, locals Peter and Mitchell Argent will put on a woodchopping display behind the clubhouse to keep with the “Timber Towns” theme.<\/p>\n

Then the home side will face Nanango in the match of the day at 2:15pm.<\/p>\n

Both teams have had their ups and downs this season. And while Nanango’s form has been impressive lately, Blackbutt will be aiming to put on a good display in front of their home crowd on their Centenary day.<\/p>\n

Mr Richardson said the Timbertowners centenary celebrations would continue after the match at the Blackbutt Community Hall.

\nCelebrations will officially get underway at 6:30pm and will include a camp oven meal and live music by Noel McGrath.<\/p>\n

CROW-FM sports reporter Bob Coleman will be compering the evening.<\/p>\n

Mr Richardson said “heaps” of former Timbertowners were returning for the dinner, including may from the 1960s and 1970s.<\/p>\n

“There are about 180 odd that I know are coming from places like Kilcoy, Bundaberg, Toowoomba, Dalby and Ipswich,” he said.<\/p>\n

There will be photos and other club memorabilia on display in the hall.<\/p>\n

An auction will be held later in the evening to raise funds for the club. On the block will be an autographed 2012 Broncos shirt.<\/p>\n
