South Burnett Cricket Association secretary Paul Clegg has taken a hat-trick … he was recently presented with Life Membership of Wide Bay Cricket; this is on top of his life membership of both the South Burnett Cricket Association and his club, the Warriors.<\/p>\n

Paul was honoured with the Wide Bay award at the association’s AGM in Maryborough earlier this month.<\/p>\n

The commemorative plaque reads “For outstanding services to cricket in the Wide Bay region”.<\/p>\n

Paul’s life has revolved around cricket since he first picked up a bat in the U10s in 1978.<\/p>\n

His father used to play for Warriors so it was natural Paul would follow in his footsteps in 1982.<\/p>\n

At the tender of age of 14 he started playing B Grade but his potential was spotted and after just half a season he was moved into the A Grade ranks.<\/p>\n

There was no shortage of cricket available for the young player.<\/p>\n

At the time there was a Saturday afternoon A Grade Kingaroy competition and a separate South Burnett competition played on Sundays.<\/p>\n

Paul also quickly started to become involved in the “administration” side of the game.<\/p>\n

He was secretary of the Warriors club for about 13 years.<\/p>\n

He has now been the South Burnett Cricket Association secretary for about 10 years, and before that was treasurer.<\/p>\n

At the Wide Bay level, Paul is a senior selector, registrar, conduct commissioner and manages the Wide Bay Open side …<\/p>\n

He admits administration takes up so much of his time these days, it leaves very little left for actual cricket.<\/p>\n

But he still plays for Warriors … back in their B Grade side.<\/p>\n

Paul is looking forward to a good season but says there will be some changes flowing through from Cricket Australia.<\/p>\n

These will be discussed at the South Burnett Cricket Association AGM which will be held on Tuesday, August 20, at Lyle Vidler Oval.<\/p>\n

The nominations meeting – when we will learn what teams will be taking part in the 2013-14 season – will be held on September 17.<\/p>\n

(All South Burnett cricket meetings have now shifted to the third Tuesday of the month).<\/p>\n

A date for the official opening game of the season hasn’t been fixed as yet, but Paul said it would probably be the last weekend of the September school holidays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
