The Durong Community Fun Day has raised more than $500 for the Lindsay family who lost all their possessions in a house fire at West Boondooma in May this year.<\/p>\n

The fun day, held last Saturday, was organised by the Durong Green Frogs Girl Guides.<\/p>\n

Since the fire, the local community and the South Burnett and Chinchilla communities have donated household furniture, appliances and have found the family new accommodation.<\/p>\n

Gordon Lindsay, who is disabled, lives with his 10-year-old daughter Terri and also has older children living in Chinchilla.<\/p>\n

Mr Lindsay said he was humbled by the response and the generosity of people, and without them he would be in a very difficult situation.<\/p>\n

Families enjoyed a fun-filled day on Saturday with old-fashioned outdoor games, face painting, raffles and prizes.<\/p>\n

Lunch consisted of a pig-on-the-spit and other home-cooked fare.<\/p>\n

The Queensland Rural Fire Service brought along \u201cL’il Squirt\u201d, which the kids adored.<\/p>\n

They also had handouts for adults and children which reinforced fire safety in the community.<\/p>\n

QFRS Volunteer Community Educators made it a fun way to teach kids and adults many things about fire safety.<\/p>\n

Durong Green Frogs Girl Guides would like to thank Durong South State School P&C, Queensland Fire and Rescue, Durong and Coverty Rural Fire Brigades and all the businesses that donated prizes for the day.<\/p>\n

Spokesperson Leeann Stern said she was pleased with the day\u2019s outcome despite having fewer people than expected.<\/p>\n

“A relaxing fun day was had by all, which was the main aim of the event,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
