The annual Mini Mod rugby league carnival played at Wondai on Saturday has been hailed as a big success … even if the South Burnett’s local teams didn’t make it through to the main final.<\/p>\n

Fifty-five junior teams from across the Wide Bay region – and their supporters – packed into the Wondai Sportsground and adjoining fields to play in U7s, U8s, U10s and U12s.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett was represented by teams from Blackbutt, Nanango, Kingaroy, Wondai, Murgon and Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

Mini Mod is an introductory form of rugby league, with modified rules.<\/p>\n

The U7s, U8s and u10s played 15-minute games while the U12s – who were competing for a tournament trophy – played 19-minute games.<\/p>\n

All games were played with a quick turn-around, giving spectators constant footy action across three fields.<\/p>\n

The U12s final, played on the main oval, was an all Hervey Bay Seagulls affair, with Hervey Bay C defeating Hervey Bay A by 20-4 after an entertaining game.<\/p>\n

Hervey Bay C captain Callum Green was named Player of the Final.<\/p>\n
