Fishermen shouldn’t overlook common-sense security precautions when camping at local dams, police warn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kingaroy police are urging anglers to always keep an eye on their property when they’re camping at local dams.<\/p>\n

Although there have been no thefts recently, a police spokesman urged people competing in fishing competitions or tournaments to be aware of “property security”.<\/p>\n

“Items such as generators, fishing rods, eskies and other portable camping equipment represent easy targets for opportunistic thieves,” the spokesman said.<\/p>\n

“Boat trailers may also be easy targets for thieves unless they are securely locked.<\/p>\n

“Other valuable items such as wallets, phones and electronic devices should also always be securely locked away, out of sight.”<\/p>\n

The spokesman said it may also be a good time to consider engraving your property.<\/p>\n

“This may act as a deterrent to thieves and also assist in recovery should items be stolen,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Visit your local police station for assistance with engraving.”<\/p>\n
