St Anne’s Anglican parish in Nanango now has a “Shed” to complement its “Churchyard Shop” to help meet the growing demand on its services.<\/p>\n

Rev Avriel Green said the Churchyard Shop was established in July 2011 as a place where lonely and isolated people in Nanango could meet and enjoy a cuppa in a safe environment.<\/p>\n

Providing a secondhand shop seemed to be a good way to encourage this.<\/p>\n

People now gather at the shop – which is located in the old church hall opposite Nanango State School – every Saturday morning from 8:00am to noon to browse through bargains, including clothing, manchester and crockery.<\/p>\n

But Rev Green said that there had been more demand recently for furniture – and more donations – so the parish had been looking for a solution to store these bulkier items.<\/p>\n

This is where Stanwell’s Tarong Community Partnership Fund stepped in to provide a hand.<\/p>\n

A donation of $14,500 to the parish has enabled it to build a new double-bay storage shed at the rear of the property.<\/p>\n

The new building was officially opened on Saturday morning with a celebration which included music, a sausage sizzle and a cake to mark the second birthday of the Churchyard Shop.<\/p>\n

Tarong Power Stations site manager Dennis Franklin said the Community Partnership Fund was proud to be a part of the celebration.<\/p>\n

“I congratulate all those responsible for bringing the ‘Churchyard Shed’ project together,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We are delighted to be able to support the South Burnett community and we look forward to continuing our partnerships with this community well into the future.”<\/p>\n
