A busload of South Burnett musicians helped to make music history at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday, taking part in a successful bid to set a new record for the World’s Biggest Orchestra<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A total of 7223 musicians played “Waltzing Matilda”, “Ode of Joy” and Queen’s stadium rock anthem “We Will Rock You” as part of the Queensland Music Festival bid to smash the record set in Canada in 2000.<\/p>\n

Amongst them were students from\u00a0Kingaroy State School, Kingaroy State High School and Wondai State School playing a mixture of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.<\/p>\n

The party was led by music teachers Nadine Gray, from Kingaroy State High School, and Jane Iszlaub, from Wondai State School.<\/p>\n

The old record was 6452 musicians set in Vancouver.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, four members of the South Burnett group also took part in a bid to form the World’s Largest Trumpet Ensemble in King George Square … but unfortunately this record attempt fell a little short, although they did set an Australian record.<\/p>\n

However the trumpeters played loud and strong before marching through Brisbane streets, playing Jeremiah Clarke’s “Trumpet Voluntary”, on their way to Suncorp Stadium where they joined the rest of the “orchestra”, conducted by James Morrison.<\/p>\n

The trumpet record they were attempting to break involved 1166 participants set at a concert in Oruro, Bolivia, on February 19, 2006.<\/p>\n
