Wondai’s “village green” project has received a boost from the local community in the form of a donation from the Wondai Lions Club.<\/p>\n

Club president Fran Whitmore presented South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann with a cheque for $5000 at the development site on Friday.<\/p>\n

Ms Whitmore said the club was pleased to be able to help with project, which aims to beautify the centre of Wondai and re-join the “top” and “bottom” sides of town following the removal of the railway lines.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann said the money would be used to create a “feature” within Coronation Park which would also recognise the Lions involvement in the project.<\/p>\n

A public meeting in Wondai last year voted to spend $100,000 – which had been allocated by Council to Wondai – on the “village green”.<\/p>\n

Plans include replacing the railway tracks with walkways, developing a new 48-hour motorhome parking area, replanting Coronation Park in a more open layout, creating an “historical walk” and a \u00a0grass amphitheatre; and placing barbecues and picnic tables at strategic points around the grounds.<\/p>\n

Another $150,000 was allocated for Stage 2 of the project in the recent Council Budget.<\/p>\n
