Police were called to Nanango State School this afternoon after reports of a threat made to the school.<\/p>\n

A police media spokesman said the school was evacuated but nothing of concern had been located.<\/p>\n

However police were still at the school at 3:45pm; investigations were continuing.<\/p>\n

School principal Lyal Giles posted a message on Facebook to parents about the incident, saying the school was in “lockdown”.<\/p>\n

He asked that parents not collect students from school grounds but them pick up from the school hall only.<\/p>\n

Students who use school buses were escorted to their buses by teachers.<\/p>\n

A mother commented on Facebook: “Thank you to all the staff. Very organised and calm.”<\/p>\n

UPDATE: Mr Giles this evening thanked students, parents and staff for their efforts in being “calm and sensible” during the incident.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a note on Facebook, he wrote: \u00a0“Today we had a lockdown at school due an incident that required the police. Students during this time were kept safe and this was the school’s priority. This incident is still under investigation and any concerns that anyone has can direct these concerns to Queensland Police.”<\/p>\n

He also acknowledged the great work done by Nanango Police.<\/p>\n
