Cherbourg State School\u2019s cultural program is to be used as an example for other educators to follow.<\/p>\n

A short film is to be made about the program\u2019s high quality teaching and put on a State Government website to demonstrate best practise.<\/p>\n

Principal Peter Sansby said it was a coup for the school and its cultural staff, including Martina Jacobs, Sophia Jacobs, Frank Malone and Lewis Langton.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an acknowledgement of how the whole school has worked to bring cultural teaching to the students,\u201d Mr Sansby said.<\/p>\n

The children learn local, State and national Indigenous history, cultural dancing and practices, and the need to feel proud about being Aboriginal.<\/p>\n

Mr Sansby said the program was devised after a survey of Cherbourg people showed they value their Indigenous culture and wanted it to be part of their children\u2019s education.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great example of consulting and delivering what the community wants instead of telling it what it should have,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
