Growing The Burnett trainees at Red Earth Meadows … a working bee this Saturday to build a cold room, a grow tunnel, a glass house and raised garden beds will help expand the project further<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The development of a food hub for small acreage and backyard growers is going to take a leap forward with a Working Bee this weekend.<\/p>\n

Growing the Burnett Inc. (GTB) will take the next step in developing the food hub by building a cold room at Red Earth Meadows in Memerambi.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need a few extra hands this weekend to assist us in taking the next step of setting things up,\u201d GTB committee founder Brian Jarvis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot of work to achieve in a short space of time. Our target is to complete some essential projects before spring.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrowing the Burnett is seeking assistance to construct a cold room, a grow tunnel and a glass house.<\/p>\n

“We also need some help to build raised garden beds to assist less physically able people to participate in growing produce.\u201d<\/p>\n

Growing the Burnett is a regional not-for-profit organisation formed by a group of South Burnett residents who are concerned about the region\u2019s future and food security.<\/p>\n

The organisation is focused on encouraging small acreage growers through education, support and the development of a food hub to redistribute their produce.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrowing the Burnet would really appreciate help from anyone who can spare a couple of hours. The Working Bee is this Saturday from 8:00am onwards,\u201d Mr Jarvis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have over 20,000 vegetables currently growing at our Demonstration and Trial Site at Memberambi, as well as produce from local growers.<\/p>\n

“By spring we will be ready to start redistributing the produce and we will need these projects to be completed to be able to do this,\u201d said Mr Jarvis.<\/p>\n
