Fish stocking groups at South Burnett dams will benefit from the latest round of grants announced today by the State Government as part of the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme.<\/p>\n

Bjelke Peterson Dam will receive $28,838, Boondooma Dam $36,201, and Gordonbrook Dam $5130.<\/p>\n

Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister John McVeigh said a total of $690,000 would be distributed in grants across Queensland to re-stock dams with fingerlings.<\/p>\n

\u201cStocked Impounded waters such as dams need to be continually replenished as most stocked species will not reproduce,” Mr McVeigh said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the popular dams in Queensland are stocked each year with fingerlings and under the scheme, fishers pay a fee to fish at any of the 32 registered dams across Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThree-quarters of funds from the sale of permits go to community stocking groups throughout Queensland to buy native fish fingerlings and for other activities aimed at enhancing the fishery.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
