Money raised by the road levy will be used on road projects across the region<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

June 3, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council will raise $3,154,800 from the new $200 per annum Road Infrastructure Levy introduced in today’s Budget.<\/p>\n

The levy will be applied per rate assessment.<\/p>\n

This means that rural landholders who have several parcels of land tied into a single rate assessment will only be required to pay the levy once.<\/p>\n

Pensioners will also receive a $100 rebate.<\/p>\n

Today Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said although the new levy has been factored into the council’s forward budget projections for the coming three years, it was not necessarily permanent.<\/p>\n

The levy may be removed if Federal and\/or State road grants return to normal levels in the future.<\/p>\n

Over the coming year, the Council proposes to spend roughly 50 per cent of the Road Levy on specific road improvement projects and the remainder on region-wide road maintenance.<\/p>\n
