Stanwell Corporation hopes to have repairs completed on Unit 1 at Tarong Power Station by the middle of next week.<\/p>\n

The generating unit suffered a tube leak about 10 days ago and was taken offline last week to enable work to begin to fix the hole in the boiler.<\/p>\n

Power Station Site Manager Dennis Franklin said having the unit offline – which is on top of the mothballing of Units 2 and 4 – would not affect Queensland electricity supplies because the market at the moment was still “well and truly over-supplied”.<\/p>\n

The power generation unit at Tarong North, and Unit 3 at the original Tarong power station, are still supplying power to the grid.<\/p>\n

“There’s no chance of blackouts or brownouts,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Franklin said tube leaks were not unusual; in fact, this is the fourth at Tarong so far this year (other leaks have been at Tarong North, Unit 3 and Unit 1) however this one had occurred in a more difficult spot to repair which had necessitated taking the unit offline for a longer period.<\/p>\n
